Tomorrow is Independence Day here in the United States. With apologies to my British friends, this day celebrates the July 4th, 1776 signing of the Declaration of Independence, launching our freedom from George III and his Kingdom.
Regardless of where you are in the world, I invite you to declare your own independence – your own research independence.
The tyranny faced by those early Americans was governmental. Luckily for you, the only research tyranny you face is mental.
That’s because we’re in a technology-enabled age where the possibilities for research are nearly boundless. The only thing holding you back is yourself.
Throw off the bonds of conventional thinking.
Has everything you’re doing been done before? Does it have the seal of approval of the research trade associations? Are you doing it the way someone taught you it was always done before you?
Get out of your safe zone. Take a risk. Be the one who sets an example for others to follow.
Declare your research independence, and you’ll make history.
